We Americans know that on the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November, every two years, there is going to be an election. This election is going to be a mid-term election, not a presidential one. There are many issues of importance for us Americans to consider during this mid-term election season. Some of these issues range from border security, taxes, healthcare, pro-life, judges, etc. With all of the important issues facing us today, some issues are of greater importance than others. The right to life, however, is the foundation upon which all other issues stem from. Protecting innocent human life from conception until natural death is the most important lens we need to use to look at all other issues facing our nation. St. Pope John Paul II, in paragraph 38 in his apostolic letter, “Christifideles Laici (On the Lay Members of Christ’s Faithful)”, said it best when he declared:

“In effect the acknowledgment of the personal dignity of every human being demands the respect, the defense and the promotion of the rights of the human person. It is a question of inherent, universal and inviolable rights. No one, no individual, no group, no authority, no State, can change-let alone eliminate-them because such rights find their source in God himself. The inviolability of the person which is a reflection of the absolute inviolability of God, finds its primary and fundamental expression in the inviolability of human life. Above all, the common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of human rights-for example, the right to health, to home, to work, to family, to culture- is false and illusory if the right to life, the most basic and fundamental right and the condition for all other personal rights, is not defended with maximum determination.”

Simply put, Saint Pope John Paul II is telling us that the right to life is the foundation upon which all other rights must stand. The imagery of a house can help us understand this principle. Think of the foundation of a house to be the right-to-life issue. All the rooms in the house such as the living room, bedroom, bathroom, etc. are the other issues facing our nation. Such examples are immigration, healthcare, national security, and education. These rooms can only stand securely if they are on a firm foundation, which is the right-to-life. Every human being has a right to life that must be protected from conception until natural death. This is the firm foundation upon which our government must base all policies. Our own Founding Fathers had a similar view when they declared in the “Declaration of Independence”: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” It is important to note that life comes first in the list of rights. The founders did this on purpose to show that without life, there is neither liberty nor the pursuit of happiness.

With that said, one could ask“how do all of these issues affect Men during this election?” One of the great charisms of masculinity is to be the protector of women, children, and the innocent. Our nation is at a tipping point. I am truly grateful that in 2016 we elected Donald J. Trump to be our president. Even with all of President Trump’s imperfections, he has been a strong leader and defender for the right to life, traditional family values, religious freedom, and border security and the rule of law.

During this election, border security and immigration have become some of the most discussed issues. Since as Men we are protectors by nature, one of the most protective acts that we can do is vote for politicians who are supporters of President Trump’s agenda, including those who will continue to fight for America’s right to secure her borders.

America is being flooded with crime which is causing havoc on the lives of our citizens. Part of what it means to be a Man is to stand up against the forces of evil and say “No!” Desiring to protect our nation is part of being a Man and embodies the virtues of Justice and Courage. In order to protect the innocent, and to stand up for truth, justice, and the American way, we need to elect more Republicans to Congress so that they can have super-majorities in both houses in order to implement President Trump’s agenda. I know, Republicans and President Trump are imperfect, but they are the best means for us to continue to make America great again and return her to her founding principles. If we lose America, the world is lost.

It is also important to mention the necessity of making sure that we don’t forget to vote in our local and state elections which are happening on November 6th as well. Having politicians in the state legislatures and Governor’s office who support President Trump’s agenda is a necessity. In many aspects, it is at the state level where all of the action happens. For example, many states have been invoking their power to put limits on abortion by passing laws, and we need to continue to make sure that we have pro-life Republicans at the state level. With all of the media attention surrounding the federal election, don’t forget to vote for these important state elections as well.

So, on election day, November 6, 2018, let us continue to make America great again as we continue to be faithful citizens, and vote for life, liberty, and justice, by reelecting the Republicans to Congress.
